How it works
The Yacht
SmartMembership yachts are highly-specified new or nearly new yachts. They are owned by Scotboats or private owners.
The Membership Agreement provides the right to use the yacht for a specified amount of time during the sailing season.
Our yachts have been "coded" which means they have been equipped and independently surveyed according to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency's exacting safety standard.
Members
There are a limited number of members to each yacht. They treat it as their own and enjoy flexible, exclusive use with their own friends and family.
Some Members have sailed extensively and may have owned a yacht previously, whereas others are attracted to Yacht Membership in order to gain experience. We look for at least RYA Day Skipper qualification.
Alternatively we will put together a bespoke training plan for you on your yacht for the season (with the option to include your partner or family and friends at no extra cost).
Initial Induction
The Initial Induction, led by our in-house RYA YachtMaster Instructor, is designed to ensure you are completely familiar with your yacht and all equipment, and are confident berthing and anchoring as well as sailing in all winds.
Even our most experienced Members have all appreciated this comprehensive familiarisation and accompanied first sailing day on their yacht.
The one-day Induction costs £300 which includes our Chief Instructor and subsidised use of the yacht for a weekday.
Booking trips
Your Membership Programme provides a number of WeekEnd and MidWeek Flexidays which are valid for use at any time in the season subject to availability and a few simple scheduling rules.
Flexidays can be combined to create short breaks and longer trips, or used individually for daysails.
Every Member is assured of availability to spread their sailing time across the season if scheduled by certain dates. The Season runs 1 April to 31 October.
Advance reservations can be made as soon as you join. Members can view their yacht's availability online anytime. Most Members prefer the reassurance of making or amending their bookings personally by phone or email.
Trip dates can be amended or cancelled at any time. Flexidays cancelled at least 14 days ahead are reimbursed and can be rescheduled subject to availability. Even Flexidays cancelled with less than 14 days notice will be reimbursed if those dates are subsequently booked by another Member.
Simple CheckOn/Off
During the Initial Induction we'll introduce you to our simple online CheckON and CheckOFF checklists which work on your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Then your movements are not constrained by office hours or time-consuming handovers. Marina staff are always on hand, of course, to assist with departing or returning to pontoon if required.
Full sailing days
You're free to board your yacht anytime after 10.00am on the first day of a trip.
The yacht must be back at its marina berth by sunset on the last day of the trip, and you are welcome to stay onboard overnight and leave by 08.30 next day.
So every day can be a full sailing day if you wish.
"The main benefit for me is the flexibility and customer service offered by the people that run Scotboats. They really put themselves out to work around my calendar so that I get maximum value out of the membership."
"The quality of the boat, kit and equipment far exceeds that of the average charter boat and costs are significantly cheaper than chartering."
